Welcome to our home!

This is a story of courage and of hazelnuts
embedded deep in each and every one of us

A story of those who plant vines and trees where millions of years ago there was sea. A story of hands made especially for grapes: to protect them, collect them and turn them into wine. It’s a story of bright green and soft seductive hills around the small town of Portacomaro.
For the past generations the Durando family never stopped loving and caring for their land. Today Alessandro and his wife Sara, together with their children Davide and Marta, are here to welcome you and let you share a bit of their history.

Monferrato, Piemonte: this is our land

Our farm is located in the heart of Monferrato,
a land of vineyards and ridges

A story of those who plant vines and trees where millions of years ago there was sea. A story of hands made especially for grapes: to protect them, collect them and turn them into wine. It’s a story of bright green and soft seductive hills around the small town of Portacomaro.
For the past generations the Durando family never stopped loving and caring for their land. Today Alessandro and his wife Sara, together with their children Davide and Marta, are here to welcome you and let you share a bit of their history.

Discover & taste our products!

Monferrato is an open-air kitchen, a brimful table among vineyards and oaks filled with local specialties. Make sure not to be on a diet! However, don’t be fooled by the abundance, because Monferrato is also a pantry full of care. Our food is the result of devoted hands and instinct. We offer you genuine products faithful to local tradition. Hazelnuts and hazelnut-based products, local wines, stone-ground flours, seasonal products such as jams, gianduiotti, biscuits and cakes. But also cosmetics (we sell Poliphenolia vegan products for skin care) and every now and then, we prepare some excellent new products for you!

We transform the raw materials we cultivate into genuine products faithful to the local Monferrato tradition which for generations we have cherished with passion and care. We can proudly offer the delicious IGP Piedmont Hazelnut in its whole, natural version as well as grained  and salted. We make hazelnut based products such as 100% hazelnut paste, 60% spreadable cream,  stoneground flour, the traditional  “brut and bon” cakes, nougat and ex- quisite gianduiotti. We produce several red and white wines and grappas, not to mention seasonal products, like jam, that vary according to the time of the year and the harvest.

The Hazelnuts

We’re the last generation of a family of farmers with a special love for hazelnuts. We’ve been carefully cultivating and harvesting our Piemonte IGP hazelnuts since 2008 in our bright, peaceful land of endless ridges. The hazelnuts come out of our Laboratory, also open to the public by appointment, in their very best form: toasted and ready to be eaten naturally, or in the incredibly ta- sty salted version. We also transform our hazelnuts into spreadable creams, including our famous Nuturally cream that leaves everyone happy, as well as biscuits, cakes, pasta and flour. If you’re a real hazelnut lover, our ice cream is a must! We make it according to a secret recipe from the area. When you think of it, there’s a whole tasteful world hiding inside a hazelnut. And here, you can discover every bit of it.

Try the hazelnut experience!

Here, in the land of the Durando family, where hazelnuts have been produced for 5 generations, we offer a delicious food experience open to everyone, designed to closely explore an incredible world full of stories and curiosities. You will discover that hazelnuts, in addition to being very tasty, prove to be useful allies in the battle for sustainability: from using the waste to make paper to the “noccioblocco”. You will find out in how many ways these precious fruits help us to be healthier and happier. After discovering the secrets, benefits and stories related to hazelnuts, we will show you how to make an irresistible dessert. A delicious cocoa and hazelnut cream, all made by you! With your hands in the dough, a little sugar and different types of cocoa, you learn how to prepare the best spreadable cream yourself, to enjoy on hot bread, in homemade desserts or directly from the jar!

Our wines

Our wine has cheered up Sunday lunches with the family and evenings with friends since 1800

We bring Grignolino and Barbera d’Asti, Ruchè, Bianco, Rosato and Moscato from our vineyard, to your table. We love all of our wines and have protected them from the beginning of our history: passing of the torch, changes or adverse weather have never stopped our production. The symbol of this resistance is our Grignolino Anarchico Testabalorda, a wine that was once the favorite of kings, but that today many treat as the slightly rebellious teenage brother: they don’t understand him and leave him be. They don’t know what they’re missing, and here you can find it out. It is said that sometimes, that destiny is hidden in the name. We are called Durando (that could be translated more or less like “long lasting”), and we have always moved forward, never given up or slowed down.

Try a typical lunch (or a dinner) at Agriturismo Terra d'Origine!

Terra d’Origine was born on March 19th 2016 on a sun-kissed hill

Here, during the weekend (from March to December) you can taste the typical Monferrato cuisine in our restaurant surrounded by poppies, lavender and green leaves. We serve only raw ingredients coming from our own land, along with carefully selected products. Walk through the vineyards or hazelnut groves on your way to enjoy our “fagotto” (a special picnic in the vineyard!). Relax in a cozy atmosphere, full of history and local tales. The focus of our philosophy is environmental sustainability and pre- serving our heritage: these two milestones mix together with the energy of a new generation whose heart still beats for its homeland.Today as in the past.

Let’s have a picnic with our “Fagotto”!

A fagotto bundle is that tablecloth your grandmother used to use, closed with a knot and filled with delicious food, ready to be eaten among our hills.
The fagotto can be ordered during the week and eaten in company on the weekend. Each bundle contains tasty, generous dishes, free bread and water, and a delightful dessert to end your picnic in the sweetest of ways.

If you care for some fine wine from our vineyards, just ask when you order. For a cup of coffee or a homemade ice cream, just come up to our Barot, at the top of the hill, we’ll be here waiting for you! If you want to stay until after sunset to enjoy your last glass of wine, please, go ahead: our land has no time limits, it only asks you for respect and care. During the picnic you can admire enchanting sunsets, and, if you’re lucky, you might even see fireflies or shooting stars. Also keep in mind that we have bicycles available on request if you care to pedal through the best Monferrato offers.

Our idea of sustainability

What happens to our planet should be of great concern for all of us, as it is a matter that regards us and our children who one day will inherit the world that we have made

We put actions in our words, and use our roofs to produ- ce solar energy and geothermal heating to keep warm. We built our farmhouse using bio-building techniques and with the hazelnut processing waste we heat up our farm. We work actively to obtain the most possible from the waste we produce. Every year we plant new ha- zelnut trees to help our land breathe better, and every day we try to work our land in the most sustainable way, so that we are healthy and environmentally friendly. Here at the Durandos, since 1630, we have been doing only what we believe in.
